In 1879 Mary Baker Eddy, the discover and founder of Christian Science, and some of her students voted “to organize a church designed to commemorate the word and works of our Master (Christ Jesus), which should reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing.” Today there are branch churches of The Mother Church similar to ours, throughout the world.
Sunday services are conducted by our First and Second Readers at 10:30 a.m. Together they read from the Bible and our textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, the Bible lesson which Christian Scientists worldwide study each week. We have exalting hymn singing and inspiring music.
Wednesday evening testimony meetings also include music, singing and passages from the Bible and Science and Health which have been prepared by the First Reader on a specific topic. Testimonies of Christian Science healing are gratefully shared by those in the congregation. Wednesday meetings are at 7:00 p.m.
Sunday School meets at 10:30, the same time as the Sunday service, for young people 3 through 19. Christ Jesus and his healings, The Lord’s Prayer, Sermon on the Mount, Commandments, Beatitudes, and Bible stories contribute to learning about Christian Science as “practical operative Christianity” today. Children too young for Sunday School classes are cared for in our “children’s room.”
Our Christian Science Reading Room is in downtown Daytona Beach and is provided to answer citizens’ inquiries, for study, prayer, comfort, and helpful spiritual inspiration from Christian Science publications. It has a study room, computer, reference library and a sales room. Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, the Bible, The Christian Science Monitor, Sentinel and Journal magazines are always available. Librarian and staff are on duty weekdays from 10:00 to 4:00. A wealth of online resources on Christian Science including audio chats, podcasts, testimonies of healing, articles and concordances can be accessed in the Reading Room or through links on this website.
The public is always invited to visit our Reading Room, attend our Sunday and Wednesday services, and bring children to our Sunday School. Our members have all been helped by Christian Science and would love to share it with you.
